As a first language English speaker I'd suggest learning French first, even though it is considered the furthest from Latin. French has a substantial vocabulary and some grammar similar to English (English got it from French, not the other way around so much). Then I'd suggest learning Spanish, Portuguese and Italian or Catalan...Romanian seems like a distant language from Latin so I'm not sure what order it would fit in and doesn't particularly interest me lol. I wouldn't waste my time learning a dead language like Latin itself or a little used language like Esperanto. I think Catalan is closest to Latin.
This is awesome!

ReplyDeleteFantastic post !
ReplyDeleteExcellent suggestions and links! It was especially enlightening to hear how learning Esperanto can help make Romance languages easier to learn.
